The Chargé in Liberia (Wharton) to the Secretary of State

52. From McBride.

1.
First plane arrived yesterday overnighted at Harbel. Pilot enthusiastic about landing field. Some difficulty encountered because of fadeouts but radio contact Harbel to Accra for plane direction finally established.
2.
Obtained permission from Liberian Government February 17 for Harbel radio station to communicate directly with Fisherman Lake and other necessary points. Such communication to be exclusively for direction of plane traffic. This permission, which is outside their contract, granted to the Firestone station only temporarily until Panair can establish its own radio facilities at air field. This latter should be given prompt attention. [McBride.]
