318. Chungking’s 224, June 6, noon. The Department assumes that you will supplement your recent representations (your 771, June 5, 9 p.m.35) with a further emphatic protest against this endangering of personnel and premises of the American Embassy. You may wish to point out that any further recurrence will not comport with the assurances of the War Minister36 mentioned by Mr. Matsuoka in your 781, June 6, 8 p.m.37
