The Minister in Greece (MacVeagh) to the Secretary of State
[Received October 28—3:50 a.m.]
262. Following some more absurd Italian news agency charges of Greek armed action in Albania, fully denied by the Greek Government yesterday, the Italian Minister handed the Premier an ultimatum at 3 o’clock this morning to [expire?] at 6, demanding permission to occupy certain strategic points. When the Premier asked what points, the Minister said he did not know. This last I have from the British Minister who was at once called in consultation. Indications are that Greece will not comply. Athens is already blacked out.
