The Ambassador in Japan ( Grew ) to the Secretary of State

506. Domei released this afternoon a communiqué from the Kwangtung Army Headquarters at Hsinking reporting a serious clash which occurred yesterday afternoon at 4:30, lasting until 5 this morning, between the Soviet troops and Japanese-Manchukuo troops at Changkufeng. The Japanese-Manchukuo troops are reported to have taken the Soviet positions on the hill at Changkufeng and driven off the Soviet troops to the eastward. The communiqué reports approximately 200 Russian casualties, 30 having been found dead on the field, as well as a number of Japanese casualties.
