The First Secretary of Embassy in China (Salisbury) to the Secretary of State
[Received July 31—7 a.m.]
Following from Mukden:
“July 31, 2 p.m. My July 15, 6 p.m. Following information provided my informant by the Kwangtung Army. Japanese forces yesterday repelled Russian forces which penetrated Manchurian territory north of disputed position, and in addition after batteries newly established at this point opened fire on them. Russian heavy tanks also were in action. This morning same batteries shelled Korean village across Tumen and exchange artillery fire is in progress, seven Japanese casualties up to last night.”
