34. Following telegram has been sent Yunnanfu and repeated to Department, Peiping and Hankow.
“February 17, noon. Your February 17, 11 a.m. was communicated to Foreign Office with request that telegraphic instructions be sent to local authorities to afford protection to Americans at Chaotung and any others in places of danger. Foreign Office now states that requested instructions have been issued and that Yunnan Provincial Government has telegraphed in reply that Communists have not entered that Province and are still in western Kweichow.”
