293. Italian headquarters at palace have sent me captain, lieutenant, and 50 men. Have had them placed outside Legation compound. They inform me nearest occupying force 6¼ miles away. Also that between 25 and 30 thousand Italians here so that by morning the situation will be entirely under control. The city is now calm with only an occasional shot.
