The Chargé in France (Wilson) to the Secretary of State

893. For the Secretary of the Treasury from Cochran. Reference to my 892, September 18, 10 p.m., Baumgartner telephoned me this morning that Leith-Ross had also objected to inclusion of reference to eventual return to gold standard and had indicated that certain revision in phraseology would be necessary to suit British public. In final interview before Leith-Ross’s departure for London Minister of Finance Auriol stressed to him his insistence upon a simultaneous common declaration.

It is arranged for me to communicate to Baumgartner tonight or tomorrow morning any suggestions that may be received from you in the meantime. [Cochran.]
