42. Department’s telegram 27, September 24, 5 p.m. Department’s instruction carried out. Professor Van Gelderen of the Ministry of the Colonies has just telephoned before leaving for London that (1) he agrees in principle with our point of view, (2) the Netherlands Government remains unalterably opposed to excessive prices or fluctuations, (3) he does not believe we should be too anxious about acts of Rubber Committee although he cannot even informally make any statement to me as to the future policy of the Committee.
