The Ambassador in the United Kingdom (Bingham) to the Secretary of State
[Received September 25—9:25 a.m.]
444. Embassy’s 435, September 17, 4 p.m.17 Foreign Office handed me today following aide-mémoire:
“His Majesty’s Government fully agree with Mr. Cordell Hull as to the satisfactory nature of the report of the Economic Committee of the League of Nations and generally endorse its conclusions. They anticipate that the question will be fully discussed at Geneva and they are not, of course, aware what resolutions will be proposed or what concrete suggestions will be put forward. They are not, therefore, at the moment, in a position to state precisely what the final instructions to the United Kingdom representatives will be, but their general attitude will be as indicated above and His Majesty’s Government will be very pleased to continue to keep in touch with Mr. Hull on the matter.”
