The Secretary of State to the Ambassador in Belgium (Morris)
10. Department’s instruction No. 320, February 4, 1936.5 Belgian Ambassador appears to be favorably impressed by our arguments for cooperation to suppress alcohol smuggling and stated that he is planning an approach to his Government which he hopes will be successful in obtaining action we desire. He asks that in the meantime we make no further direct efforts ourselves.
[Page 411]Please disregard, therefore, the request in our instruction No. 332 of March 10 to do whatever you can to facilitate the Ambassador’s efforts, and omit any further reference to this subject for the present in your relations with the Belgian Government.
