25. Your 48, May 4, 3 p.m. Automobile Manufacturers Association which has been in touch with various companies has informed the Department that it has no objection to the proposals outlined in your telegram.
The proposed license tax of 20 percent of the duty on 4-cylinder passenger cars is of practically no interest to us. However, if this were extended to items which are of interest and on which duty concessions have been made, we would of course have objection since the tax would tend to offset the advantages gained from the concession.
