The Italian Embassy to the Department of State
Aide-Mémoire
The Italian Government have appreciated the communication made to them by the Government of the United States through the memorandum of the Department of State under date of January 7th, 1935 and are glad to accept the proposal to enter upon trade negotiations between Italy and the United States.
The Italian Government entertain the hope that such negotiations will lead to a conciliation of the respective views even on the points now at variance on certain questions of principle, and that they will result into an agreement satisfactory to both Governments.
According to the suggestion offered verbally by the Assistant [Secretary] of State, Mr. Sayre, to Ambassador Rosso, the Italian Government will make public announcement of the forthcoming negotiations on Wednesday, January 16th, indicating that the actual negotiations will start on or about the 1st of May.
The names of the Italian Delegates in charge of these negotiations will be communicated in due course.
