The Ambassador in Germany ( Dodd ) to the Secretary of State

51. For the President. Am sending information in tomorrow’s pouch which I promised on February 6th.

I might add that in spite of Hitler’s citing Wilson’s 14 points and [Page 307] other reassertions of peace motives, no informed persons here think the one objective which I described to you has been changed. With controlled thinking and increased influence Hitler may turn public opinion in any direction. Anything may happen but pending crystallization allied attitude this Government continues its peace propaganda. The man in the street expects anything although he has little basis for independent thought.
