The Minister in Czechoslovakia (Wright) to the Secretary of State
[Received June 21—12:30 p.m.]
27. Your No. 17, June 18, 3 p.m., and instruction No. 49. Increased duty on all lard imports, effective January 1st last as reported by Commercial Attaché in his trade notes No. 464 of December 28, 1934,20 more intensive competition from local product and artificial substitutes, together with higher cost of American lard make it practically impossible for the latter now to find a market in this country irrespective of quota. Leading importer of American lard is selling off his stock in hand at considerable loss and will make no further imports for the present. Am pressing for equitable solution. Full details by mail.
