163. Your 100, August 2, 11 a.m.35 Hitler has addressed letter to Minister of Interior stating that in view of association of title of Reichs President with personality of Hindenburg, he shall continue to be addressed as heretofore as Fuehrer and Chancellor. In the same communication he expresses desire that the people should specifically sanction in free and secret vote the entrusting of functions of former President to him and to office of Chancellor which Cabinet had already decided. Accordingly 19th August has been designated as voting day.
In view of Schmitt illness Schacht designated Minister of Economics for 6 months. Meissner designated to continue as head of the secretariat of the President.
