The Secretary of State to the Chairman of the American Delegation (Davis)
Washington, June
12, 1934—1 p.m.
433. Your 893 [892a], June 12, noon. I entirely concur with your judgment as to the inadvisability of making any move towards meeting Ribbentrop in Germany, and support the position you have taken that if he wants to see you he should call on you openly. I am re-enforced in this opinion by the fact that advances have been made to you by an unofficial Nazi representative and not by an official of the German Government.
