The Acting Secretary of State to the Ambassador in Brazil (Morgan)
Washington, June 30, 1931—5
p.m.
49. Your 42, June 29, 4 p.m. This Government and the neutral Governments are counseling moderation on the part of both Bolivia and Paraguay and expressing the hope that diplomatic relations will not be broken and that this incident will be settled and will not be permitted to develop in such a way as to endanger the holding of the conference suggested in the neutral Governments’ notes of June 2574 for a settlement of the vital Chaco question. Any support in this sense by the Brazilian Government will be most welcome.
