First paragraph last sentence was telegraphed to American Legation Managua. The following telegram has now been received from Legation, dated August 1:
“President Chamorro states that he will despatch at once a small armed guard to the frontier in search of Funes. He requested me [Page 437] to point out to the Department the great length of the frontier and the fact that financial restrictions prevent him from maintaining a regular border force. The President further stated that (apparent omission) Funes had so large a force as the government had received no report of his movements for some time.”
