The Secretary of State to the British Chargé (Craigie)
Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of the Ambassador’s note No. 837 of December 28, 1920, inquiring, at the instance of the Government of Canada, what prospect there is of the Treaty signed on May 25th between the United States and Great Britain for the protection, preservation and propagation of salmon fisheries in [Page 390] the waters contiguous to Canada and the United States, receiving action by the Senate during the present session of Congress. In reply I regret to say that I have ascertained that by reason of the desire of persons interested in the Pacific coast fisheries to have an opportunity to be heard regarding the Treaty, there is little probability of action being taken on it by the Committee on Foreign Relations during the present session.
