File No. 659.119/352

The Chargé in Great Britain ( Laughlin) to the Secretary of State

[Telegram]

10964. War Trade Board from Doctor Taylor:

No. 916. Have discussed Danish negotiations with Seydoux and Cecil. The blockade authorities of the Allied countries are in agreement—

1.
That the status of Danish negotiations as outlined by me in accordance with the situation on my departure offers no promise to the Associated Governments;
2.
That so far as can be at present discerned, the policy of Associated Governments is to sit tight;
3.
It is not the view of our allies that there is any danger of the withdrawal of Danish ships from their present activities if the negotiations should not eventuate into an agreement.

In reply to your No. 744, Department’s 8500, June 28, 8 p.m.,1 with reference to Oppenheimer’s proposal, Dutch game unofficial and merely a feeler but obviously a blunder and has been already buried.
