File No. 658.119/483a

The Secretary of State to the Minister in Sweden ( Morris)

[Telegram]

882. For Owen [from War Trade Board]:

No. 20. Your 2270, June 11, 4 p.m.1 Delay to any Swedish steamers here was caused by the action of Swedish Government in failing to name compensation ships as provided for in clause 10 of the modus vivendi.

We have just received the cabled advice that Sweden has ratified the permanent agreement and are hastening at once to free the Swedish vessels now loaded with rations here, which will count as part of the rations under the agreement just now become effective by Sweden’s ratification.

In view of statement of Swedish representatives here that the Indianic and Australic are to proceed on Line 1 to Australia, we will allow these vessels to proceed.
