3316. Your 3850,1 February 25. Department informed May 13 by British Embassy that British Government considers undertaking of non-interference with shipment dyestuffs to Republic Trading Corporation [Page 557] to have lapsed. Unofficially urge continuance of this undertaking. Department informed that the prices at which these dyestuffs are being purchased by the Republic Trading Corporation are only about double the ante bellum prices and that the consignment with reference to which the uninterrupted shipment is desired is to consist of about 5,000 tons valued at about $5,000,000.
