Sir: The Department has received your No. 41 of the 3d instant, in reply to its instruction of the 15th ultimo, to investigate and report as to the wireless telegraphic systems proposed or already established on the Isthmus of Panama.

A copy of your dispatch has been sent to the Secretary of the Navy for his information. In this connection a copy of a letter of the 11th instant from the Secretary of the Navy is herewith inclosed.
