The Acting Secretary of the Navy to the Secretary of State.

Sir: I have the honor to transmit herewith, for the information of the Department of State, a copy of a cablegram, dated October 20th, 1912, received from the Commander-in-Chief, Pacific Fleet, at Corinto, stating that, except the landing forces of Cleveland and Denver, the force now in Nicaragua will be retained on shore until the election of November 3rd, 1912.

Respectfully yours,

Beekman Winthrop.
[Inclosure.]

Except the landing force of Cleveland [and] Denver, will retain force on shore until election of November 3, 1912; I do not anticipate any trouble, but consider it wise to be prepared.
