The Secretary of State to the Mexican Ambassador.

[Memorandum—Translation.]

In further reply to the memorandum of the Embassy of Mexico of the 9th ultimo, communicating to the Department of State a report that on the 7th of that month four volleys were fired from the American side of the Rio Grande at the soldiers of Gen. Luque, the Department has the honor to inclose a copy of a letter¹ from the Attorney General, transmitting a report of the United States marshal for the western district of Texas, accompanied by correspondence which indicates that the report mentioned was erroneous.
