Sir: With reference to the Department’s telegraphic instructions of the 28th ultimo regarding the protection of the American consul and consulate at Nuevo Laredo, I have the honor to advise the Department that I have just received a note from the Mexican foreign office stating that telegraphic orders have been given to afford the consul and the consulate under his charge the necessary protection.
