The Secretary of State to the Mexican Ambassador.

The Department of State has the honor to acknowledge the receipt of the memorandum from the Mexican Embassy dated the 23d ultimo, relative to the alleged activities of one Simon Berthold, who is said to be recruiting men in California with Mexican and Ensenada, in Lower California, for their destination.

The Department of State has had pleasure in transmitting a copy of this memorandum to the Attorney General of the United States.
