Sir: I have just learned unofficially from Mr. Mariscal that inquiry made at the Mexican War Department developed the fact that the so-called soldiers guarding the frontier, and who attacked the Papago Indians on the 6th of April last, were State militia.
Correspondence, he added, had been opened with the governor of Sonora; and the militia would doubtless be held to account for the occurrence.
I am, etc.,
Edwd. S. Bragg.
