Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of August 8, with its inclosure from the British minister, and to inform you [Page 1810] that in pursuance of the request therein conveyed I have directed by telegram and letter the postponement of the sale of the four British vessels seized in Behring Sea, and instructed the United States marshal in charge to receive bonds in lieu of the vessels.
