Mr. Drummond to Mr. Blaine.
Sir: Referring to your notes to Sir Edward Thornton of the 10th and 14th of May last, relative to incursions made into United States territory by Canadian Indians, copies of which he transmitted to Earl Granville for the information of Her Majesty’s Government, I have now the honor, in accordance with Earl Granville’s instructions, to acquaint you that a dispatch has been addressed by the Earl of Kimberly, secretary of state for the colonies, to his excellency the governor-general of the Dominion, in which is expressed the hope of Her Majesty’s Government that the Government of Canada will endeavor to the utmost of their ability to prevent the Indians from making these predatory incursions over the frontier, and will take such steps as may be in their power with the view to the punishment of any who may have been guilty of acts of robbery and outrage.
