No. 153.
Mr. Hale to Sir Edward Thornton.

Sir: With reference to previous correspondence, relative to the survey of the boundary-line between the Lake of the Woods and the Rocky Mountains, I have now the honor to inform you that the commission on the part of the United States is now organizing, and to request that you will inform the Department whether it will be convenient for the commissioner on the part of Great Britain to visit Washington and, if not, that you will be pleased to suggest some other place of meeting, in order that a conference may be held between the commissioners previous to their departure for the field.

I have the honor, &c,

CHARLES HALE,
Acting Secretary.
