No. 152.
Mr. Fish to Sir Edward Thornton.

Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 17th ultimo, informing me of the appointment of Captain Cameron, of the royal artillery, as Her Britannic Majesty’s commissioner to survey the northwest boundary, and that Her Majesty’s government would be glad to know the views of this Government in regard to the commencement of the operations, and stating that if it should appear to be expedient, orders would be given to Captain Cameron to proceed to Washington for the purpose of making the necessary arrangements in concert with the commissioner who may be appointed on the part of this Government.

I have the honor to announce to you, for the information of Her Majesty’s government, that the President has appointed Archibald Campbell, esq., commissioner on the part of the United States.

With reference to the points upon which you desire information, I have to inform you that they will receive early attention, and I shall then recur to the subject.

I have, &c,

HAMILTON FISH.
