200. Letter From President Carter to Tunisian President Bourguiba1

Dear Mr. President:

On the occasion of the fourth meeting of the U.S.-Tunisia Joint Commission, I would like to extend my best wishes to you and to Prime Minister Nouira.2 I am very pleased that Secretary Kreps was able to participate in this meeting as the head of the delegation from the United States. Her presence is evidence of our continuing serious interest in Tunisia’s well being and security.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on the very impressive economic development which Tunisia has achieved during the twenty-three years you have led your country. I am confident this Joint Commission meeting will provide an occasion to strengthen and reinforce the friendship and cooperation which the United States and Tunisia enjoy.

Sincerely,

Jimmy Carter
