SUBJECT

  • Wool

PARTICIPANTS

  • The Secretary
  • The British Ambassador
  • Mr. Nigel Trench, Counselor, British Embassy
  • Mr. T. J. Hirschfeld, Officer in Charge, Cambodian Affairs

The Secretary noted that other wool producers such as Italy and Japan were now coming into the United States market thereby creating [Page 569] some concern among domestic producers. He mentioned that he had just received a Congressional delegation representing these producers and suggested that the British might have some interest in a marketing agreement.2 Lord Harlech replied that although his government was utterly opposed in principle to such an idea, it might, nevertheless, “be intriguing to certain sections of British industry.” He said that “the experts” would be in touch soon.
