266. Letter From Secretary of the Treasury Dillon to Secretary of Commerce Hodges1
Dear Luther:
Your letter of December 2, 1964, asks where we stand on the Canadian auto parts question.2
In a meeting held in George Ball’s office on Monday, November 23, which you were unable to attend, there was full agreement that countervailing duties should be imposed in early January if the problem arising from the Canadian rebate plan has not been solved before that time.3 [Page 689] Before taking such action, Treasury would, of course, advise the White House and the Departments of State and Commerce.
With best wishes,
Sincerely,
