150. Editorial Note

On December 3, President Eisenhower left Washington to begin a world tour which took him to 11 countries within 3 weeks. The President visited both Pakistan and Afghanistan during this trip. He arrived in Pakistan on December 7 for a 2-day visit. The following day, he talked with President Ayub Khan about a number of matters, including Afghanistan; see Documents 374377. During the course of [Page 321] their talk, Ayub handed Eisenhower an aide-mémoire on Afghanistan. President Eisenhower then traveled to Afghanistan on December 9. During his 6-hour stay in Kabul, the President met briefly with Afghan officials; see infra.
