Editorial Note

On September 8 President Eisenhower and Secretary Dulles each sent Chancellor Adenauer messages of congratulations on his electoral [Page 538] victory. Four days later the Chancellor replied, thanking both the President and the Secretary of State for their messages. All four messages were sent through HICOG in telegrams 791 and 793 to Bonn and 1005 and 1006 from Bonn and subsequently released to the press. (762A.00/9–853 and 9–1253)
