On October 17, President Truman delivered a nationwide radio address at 11:30 p. m. (EST) from San Francisco. He reported on his meeting with General MacArthur at Wake Island, reiterated the desire of the United States for a unified, independent government for Korea, and stated that the United States had no aggressive design in Korea or any other place in the Far East.
