1839. Depcirtel May 6, 5 p. m., re recognition Chinese Communist Government. Holmes⁸⁸ presented memo based on Nanking’s 921³⁹ to Bevin this morning. Bevin remarked in jocular mood “Do you want us to go as slow on this as we have in case of Israel?” Stated matter would be given full consideration.
