[To Canton:] Papal internuncio favors sending his representative now Canton to Hong Kong when Nationalist Government evacuates provisional capital, to await developments there (re Cantel (TelCan] 215, May 20 to [from] you, repeated Nanking 621, Shanghai 1015). Australians have indicated similar plans. No indication from other Missions their plans but many have asked us. If you would like us to assist here in sounding out view of Chiefs of Mission in compliance Department’s reftel, please let us know.
