TelCan 160. Emb Paris has forwarded inquiry from Fr FonOff re steps US Govt expects take in event Chi Govt moves capital from Canton. Fr Emb Washington has indicated Fr considering recalling Chargé from Canton and assigning diplomatic officer “of lesser rank” to follow Govt, presumably to Taipei. Dept has informed Fr that decision not yet reached but will be made at proper moment in light inter alia of location new capital, Ur comments requested.⁴³
