746. Urtel 1769 Oct. 18. In consideration our political relations with Chi Govt, denotation carried by name “Peking” and administrative [Page 1113] complexities involved, no change being made in Departmental and general FonServ use of “Peiping”. Dept perceives no objection, however, to your following local usage this matter and employing in local communications name of city as designated by local auths. For urinfo, Dept will also employ name “Peking” in any open mail or telegraphic communications transmitted to you via commercial facilities.
