The Consul General at Peiping (Clubb) to the Secretary of State

[Received October 27—8:27 p. m.]

1839. ReContel 1837, October 27. Following received late yesterday evening as Mukden’s 89, 24th:

“Consul General Ward, Rehberg, Tatsumi and two European employees removed by police for 2 or 3 days connection their alleged as sault Chinese employee. Sent Washington, repeated Peiping 89. Stokes¹⁶ for Ward.”

Repeated hereby despite original routing provide against possible transmittal delay.
