1839. ReContel 1837, October 27. Following received late yesterday evening as Mukden’s 89, 24th:
“Consul General Ward, Rehberg, Tatsumi and two European employees removed by police for 2 or 3 days connection their alleged as [Page 988] sault Chinese employee. Sent Washington, repeated Peiping 89. Stokes16 for Ward.”
Repeated hereby despite original routing provide against possible transmittal delay.
