Editorial Note

New York, beginning July 8, sent several reports to the Department concerning the armistice negotiations between Israel and Syria. The report of July 8 stated that there had been general agreement on the [Page 1213] draft of an armistice and that some demarcation of armistice lines had been achieved (telegram 811, 501.BB Palestine/7—849).

Disagreements were encountered subsequently, particularly on the location and possible modification of the “certified truce line,” which had been established on July 18, 1948, after the second truce (telegrams 815, 818, and 819 from New York, all dated July 11, 501.BB Palestine/7–1149).
