The Ambassador in Iran (Wiley) to the Secretary of State

Tehran, October 22, 1949—4 p. m.
1355. British Ambassador informs me that through Iran Military Attaché London question jet planes has been reopened with request for 48 planes involving training program for ground force of 500, all on credit. British Ambassador indicated he is under instructions give negative response in most categorical fashion. He considers Iran jet program “lunatic”.
