Hu Shih21 told me yesterday that he is prepared to accept premiership of National Government if three conditions are fulfilled: (1) that US President or Secretary State make public statement of moral support of National Government; (2) that American economic [Page 584] and military assistance be stepped up; (3) that he be given free hand to pick his own Cabinet.
