My Dear Mr. Secretary: As you know, the President has today approved the request of Premier De Gasperi of Italy for a delay in the departure of United States forces in Italy until December 14.1 Accordingly, it would be appreciated if appropriate instructions could be sent by the Department of the Army to the Commanding General, United States Forces, Italy.2
