The Secretary of State to the Dominican Ambassador (Ortega Frier)

Excellency: I have the honor to refer to your notes Nos. 2974, 3011, and 3361, dated September 9, September 11, and October 6, 1947, respectively,61 concerning your Government’s interest in acquiring certain arms, ammunition, and implements of war for the Navy of the Dominican Republic.

The Department is pleased to inform you that it is prepared to approve licenses to export to your country the quantities of naval arms, [Page 659] ammunition, and implements of war set forth in the attached list.62

The Department regrets that it is not in a position to approve at this time licenses to export to the Dominican Republic arms and ammunition for the five corvettes and for the Las Calderas naval base.
