The Secretary of State to the Political Adviser in Korea (Langdon)

12. Dept in issuing General Hodge’s statement (urtel 1113) to press Jan 23 prefaced it with the following:

“In making available the following text of a recent public statement by Lieutenant General John R. Hodge, Commanding General of the United States forces in Korea, the Department desires to emphasize this Government’s concern in regard to the activities of dissident Korean groups which cannot but militate against the efforts of those Koreans who are earnestly desirous of attaining a united and independent government for their country. As General Hodge says in his statement ‘(Para 7 of Gen Hodge’s statement).’”
